BH 6 AAR (Fixed)

Recommended Posts

I looked for an AAR thread and couldn't so I figured I'll be the first and start one up.

I was very happy to see lots of people doing the safety briefing even tho it wasn't required. Apparently this was a lot of players first AMS event. I believe it was Bo who said that they were going to get a video of the safety briefing and put it in YouTube so we can all watch it at home. Super smart idea!!!

The morning formation isnt my favorite but allows the staff to pass along any last minute info you guys kept it short and sweet. Normally I feel a lot of players skip it and walk to their FOB but with them being so far away this year it really encouraged players to get to formation to get a ride to the FOB.

Once we got to Our FOB (UFS) we chilled out for a good hour in the heat and the game started an hour and 45 min late. From what Ron Mexico told me the staff incorrectly programmed their radios. I think that problem should of been realized a good week or 2 prior to the event. Around 11:20 we heard game on and my squad and I headed out west of the V2 rocket. We were guarding a flag for about 15-20 min before admin told us game on at 12:45 and we needed to head ALL the way back to our FOB. I feel this was part of the reason we had players dropping out 20-30 min into the game. The game has been on 20 min but that player has hiked up and down a hill and been out in the heat for almost 2 hours already.

My squad was tasked with holding the V2 rocket for just about the whole day. With very little to no resistance. After about 3.5 hours of sitting and literally napping due to pure boredom a group came to relieve us so we may get some action at coleville. But before heading to coleville Ron Mexico ordered us to CON first to regroup, hydrate and eat hot dogs. Once we got to CON we were ordered back to the V2 because it had been take over by roughly 5-8 COST forces. Once we took it back game was ended do yo weather. SMART MOVE ON AMS.

Saturday sucked for me I understand it's milsim but our whole squad was not happy as we shot more trees then people. Trying to find a happy balance between airsoft and milsim I feel will be a forever ongoing problem. Players complaining that they did not spend 160 bucks to guard a truck all day. Some players love milsim. Me personally I simply can not emerse myself into milsim. I'm here to shoot a lot of people in a player rich environment.

People may yell at me and say that I should go play somewhere else. in the past my team and I haven't really branched out past Oklahoma but now that AMS is getting events at more mount sites and chemical facilities that are more firefight and less milsim it is unlikely that I'll be going back to Broken Home.

Sunday was a blast as always fighting my way up into coleville I know lots of players compain about not calling hits I did not have this problem. So I guess I'm in the 1%. Sunday was a 10/10 in my book. Saturday was maybe 2-2.5 on my fun scale.

1 more thing, it was nice to see admin actually calling players out for their uniforms, saw a few people on both sides who were wearing the gray Elite Force shirt that was given to us. 2 of the players were on our team. I don't like that they had to leave the field when we needed them Sunday but not having the proper uniform really bugs me. So props to admin! To sticking to their uniform requirements.

All and all comparing my personal fun factor the last Rebel Yell being a 10. This broken home was probably a 5 mostly due to Saturday. Not counting the weather

American Milsim does not disappoint... wow. This was my second American Milsim game since Faded Giant 3 back in November of 2014, and I am kind of mad at myself for not going to more.

To kick things off, the organization beforehand was great (UFS). Command was very clear with all of their instructions and made sure that everyone received an email through their CoC regarding the event. Although, we (3 of us travelling together) reached out to our section via Email, FB group, and FB group chat with only 4 others responding.

FRIDAY:

When we arrived at the AO those same 4 ensured that we knew where they were and we set up camp together. It should be noted that the 4 we made contact with did not know each other. This was awesome, they helped us set up our campsite, and we went to the Ops brief and then walked the field and went over some small section tactics. Made some supper, in which we invited those 4 to get some chow, we also made them drink a ton of water, which paid off. This was the start to a really cohesive section.

SATURDAY:

Once all ready and with food in our belly's we proceeded to formation, the last minute safety and ops stuff is good and hearing it twice never hurt anyone. Only being able to rally with a total of 7 in our section, we assumed the others were "no shows" as they did not answer emails or messages on Facebook.

In my opinion, there was far too many delays and waiting around on Saturday, people travel and pay to play these games and although I understand that things happen and from what I understood it was comms problems; this was American Milsim’s 6th time at this field and the 36th game, there is no reason why the comms were not sorted out weeks prior.

Once the game started, we proceeded to V2, and then push forward towards PEGASIS, after hearing sections get caught up with contact along the road 22 towards those PEGASIS. We swept wide into a ravine where we encountered our first contact; took them out and pushed on. All day we hung around the area between V2 and PEGASIS; our command did not keep us informed of where he wanted us, even when we addressed it over the radio and asked. This was frustrating as we spent nearly 6 hours sitting around asking for orders, and receiving nothing (Comms worked as we had other conversations with our platoon CoC before).

Then the game was called off, right before 2 section mates were scheduled for their HELO RUN. We appreciated the advice given to us by some members camping near us regarding the weather. After receiving word there was a Tornado nearby we were a bit spooked; being from Colorado, Vermont, and Ontario, Canada.

SUNDAY:

After a comfortable stay in a nearby Hotel we headed back to the AO. Once again, our platoon CoC contacted us over comms and we responded, they told us to standby and wait for orders... Then the game started and we heard nothing, asked over comms and still nothing. Frustrated, we joined with another platoon which was awesome. We captured and defended V2 then after being relieved (2 hours into the game), we headed towards COLEVILLE. Came under contact at PEGASIS, steamrolled the objective, and pushed on. COLEVILLE was a lot of fun, our small squad of 7 ran up and made more progress in 5 minutes than what looked to me like a fight that had been lasting since START EX. We fought it out for the last hour we had left and that was the game.

Thanks to AMS, my 2 section mates had the chance to do their HELO RUN first thing Sunday morning, they were really looking forward to it so well done guys.

OVERALL:

I had an absolute blast and although the weather was a huge challenge as we are not used to that heat and humidity this early into the year, with lots of water and taking short breaks when we could everyone in our section stayed active and energetic.

The negative side to me was the lack of communication, we we're shot up once from a friendly technical (who evidently found it difficult to ID their targets before firing), there was a lack of communication from command on both the platoon level as well as the team level. As well as the lack of organization at START EX, almost a 2 hour delay...

I missed the INTEL that we had to collect during FG3, where we had to call in for the laptop to enter codes to unlock new missions and objectives... I feel like although BH6 was still very Milsim, it lacked that technical aspect that FG had that made every section constantly looking for INTEL around the AO.

We were probably one of the smallest sections and we completed a lot regardless. I used some basic Canadian Infantry tactics with them and with an hour of practice, we used it in the field and it worked flawlessly. We were extremely aggressive even with their being 7 of us, as a result we conquered a lot of objectives even with tactical and unit strength disadvantages.

All in all great event, could use a few little things but I had a blast and will be back!

Played for CoST and noticed the break down in comms (at least at the squad level) before ever even so much as stepping in my car to drive to Oklahoma. It was my first event so I really didn't know what to expect, and spent all day Thursday feeling way out of my element. Friday two guys showed up and camped nearby, found out they were in CoST as well and it was like a switch was turned on. Instantly made two new friends and felt way WAY more comfortable about the entire thing.

They informed me that Comms is always an issue at these things. I myself had no comms from my squad leader nor had I heard or seen anyone from my squad. Faction brief time changed.... but I like a lot of the CoST people didn't know because it was buried in a very long email and never mentioned again. Game it self was an absolute blast. Had a few issues with dead men not using dead rags on UFS... and then getting ugly when someone shot them thinking they were still alive... but they were few and hardly detracted from the game. Didn't have any issues with people not calling hits or the like, though those kinds of things rarely get to me anyway since I'm pretty laid back.

Was not impressed by the choice of FOB location for CoST on Saturday. I understand that AMS was trying to use more of the AO but it just ended with us CoST having to hike up hill for several hours before fighting. Considering the amount of Heat Casualties we had day one I would be willing to bet that attributed to it on our side a fair bit. Regardless, still had a ton of fun and am looking forward to doing it again soon. Already looking into other nearby events that I could go to in the future!

We had a good time as always. This was our 5th time at the ao. This is the only milsim we do. I agree the the statement above about there needing to be a good balance between milsim and Airsoft. This was our first time bringing a Pov. It was most definitely a learning experience. Comm problems are always going to be an issue at this event. That's just something everyone needs to accept. It's not always the ao or anything to do with ams. Players don't know how to program radios and or wait long enough after pushing the button before transmitting. Sometimes perfectly good radios don't talk to each other for some reason. I heard a bunch of relaying of info back to yuk due to players radios not transmitting far enough. One of our own radios could hear yuk but not transmit to him even if he was standing in front of us. Is what it is. I have three major complaints though. One the cost fob location was the worst ever. Please don't ever put it down that hill again. I drove so many people back and forth from the fob to camp who were worn out. I watched a guy get just a bit past cp7 after respawning only to get killed and have to go all the way back to the fob. Two povs. 8 povs vs 3 povs is no good lol. I know people are going to say I can't help it if people who own vehicles they are willing to take to play Airsoft want to play Ufs. That's incorrect. A faction shouldn't be outnumber by more than two povs. Give the other team the option of going green or leaving them at home. And lastly the water situation. We gave out a bunch of water sat. There was also a lot of radio chatter about groups needing water dropped off. You need to beat it into people's heads that they are responsible for being hydrated. When you make the safety videos and or other videos. Put a clip that lasts for 5 minutes of bo saying "bring your own water" repeatedly. We didn't have a problem handing out water and we will bring even more next time. Everyone should bring extra water to help out. But People need to understand that its not being provided by ams and they need to supply themselves and keep extra at camp.

Broken Home 6

Few comments from Top..

First off, I want to express my gratitude to AMS for continuing to build on what was started 6 years ago! The years have been ta test in patience and drama that continues through today, but American MilSim continues to TRY and in my book, that counts for more than can be expressed in word form.

Thank you to all the players who came from all over the place especially those from outside the good ole US of A!! You the PLAYER make this game we play great. Yes, the organizer provides the AO and the scenarios but you all must make it work by following rules and getting into the spirit of what Milsim is.

I know there are many who will disagree with that last statement but if you look back to where I came from, what we have today is a sight closer than anything we ever had then.

Now for the I will get into the meat.

Bad first, this will be short and to the point;

MILSIM:

Do you know what that is? Many say they do, but do you? I won’t go into it here but I bring it up because to many come to AMS events thinking it’s a big airsoft skirmish like back home only on a different field in a different place/state. It’s NOT!! MILSIM stands for “MILITARY SIMULATION†so simulating military operations. for UFS that means they are structured like the US military, notice I said “SIMILARâ€, it is airsoft so being a game you get out of it what you put in. MILSIM can be compared to LARPing, we play a role, act our parts within that role and act. If in a leadership position you take that role, if a troop you take that role and so on…

This means if you are role playing then following orders and getting into the roles you play while LARPing is a good thing.

If you don’t like the role you chose pick a different one that’s the beauty of this sport, you can change your role.

Water:

You players who failed to hydrate and properly prepare for this operation should be publicly called out in my opinion and must wear a special shirt with identification on it marking you as a heat casualty risk for a minimum of 2 games AND you should be medics carrying water that is handed out during said games!!! I am sorry if this is harsh but for the love of all, we all warn, we tell, we preach, we scream, we beg, we push, and still players show up to an AO without proper hydration!!! That is criminal!

Uniforms:

How many times does it have to be said that your uniform top, bottom and cover must match? And match your faction color? Green or tan? Amazing that I had members in GREY!!!!!! And wondered why there were blue on blue incidents….. that is stupid beyond stupid…. I get it, it was hot. Plan for that have to right gear or suck it up!

Enough of that I think I made my point. 😊

Now the good:

From my perspective, the Op went well on Saturday once the game got going, yes it took a while to get started but that’s to be expected moving that many folks to start points. Many don’t know there were vehicle issues I do know this and we did the best we could under the circumstances.

Once the game on was given the battle was pretty fluid I felt, there were mini battles and skirmishes all over the AO by design. That was great. I thought it was fun to try and find the main force of Cost which we really never did as it seemed they had split up.

I feel over all UFS held the day as the weather caused a hard stop.

Couto’s to our Vehicle commanders of Brigade milsim, 878 and all the others for without their support and ability to be where we needed them to be I think we would have had a harder road to push through.

Sunday the Battle more or less started off with a fight for Coleville, however unlike past years I feel the battle was spread out on a very wide frontage around Coleville and the surrounding hills. I personally participated and witnessed some pretty damn fierce and epic fire fights that were excellent! While I will say that UFS didn’t win but COST didn’t gain much either they were honorable and fiercely fought on both sides.  I had a blast witnessing the fight while I bleed out for the umpteenth time.. LOL

I have read and heard about some cheating and all the normal bull you hear after an OP.. I will say from my perspective I didn’t see anything overt by either side other that what I stated above. And that is something we as players need to get our heads around. Players need to police players. Players make the Game, Players must know the rules, you the player must take the time to be a part of the process. Its these so simple things that will make for a great game.

I think something we all need to reflect on is that no one is above the rules, myself included. Any player regardless of who they are has every right and obligation to correct another for a violation of the rules. If corrected the violating player needs to own it and correct themselves and thank the player who made the correction. We owe it to our sport and ourselves to be better.

Thanks, you all!

As usual, this will be long:

Comments as I have been reading:

UFS command and control: Honestly, this is the biggest reason my group switched to COST at 34 last year, and we won’t be going back. Too many times we were sent on bogus missions into places that held no tactical advantage for being there, and only served to get us tired and/or killed…or sit around and wait for nothing. On Sunday, my group was tasked with Guarding the Rocket site at the east side of the field…opposite side from Caen. I knew there would be no fighting there as UFS would have to come all the way through the valley of death, and pass up bigger objectives such as PB and Coelville, but we guarded it the same. After an hour of inactivity, leadership set us free to hunt and off we went. I am convinced that if we were under UFS leadership we would still be there :). CAC is just better over on COST, but I also know it is something UFS is working on.

Water: Don’t know how much more AMS can do for that. Look people…if you don’t know you are in the middle of OK in the beginning of summer, and that AO is a bitch, and you should hydrate not only at the event, BUT BEFORE YOU EVER GET THERE, then maybe milsim isn’t for you. Maybe getting off the couch isn’t for you. It’s common frakin sense people…geebus…

Now, for my AAR:

BH6 AAR

Yankee 2 “Take a Duece†Actual, reporting:

BH6 started off late as usual, but that is pretty MILSIM in and of itself. Yankee 2 was voluntold to be airborne dropped into the ao, and we had to wait until the rest of COST was trucked in. We waited about an hour and a half, and then moved out on foot. We walked for about 15 min into the AO, down a ravine, up the ravine, and then split into three groups. At first, I was like, wtf are you doing, you are splitting our squads up…then it occurred to me that this is an airborne drop…and chalks hardly ever land together…very milsim…very cool. I kept my team mate Moon with me as we had a helo run in the beginning, and we ended up literally one minute’s walk away from where we STARTED entering the AO (by the bus on the North (camping) side of Caen, next to the ranger obstacle course. We could have just walked right there in the beginning, but again, very milsim. It was here that I knew I did something very good pregame. I told the squad prior to even getting to the AO (and again at the formation brief) that we would get separated during the day…if not before the helo run, then definitely during the helo run. I told them they were to find battle buddies, and then take the commander’s intent and run with it. When in doubt, find a buddy, then find the enemy, kill same. I am glad I did because we were separated right from the start, and from all accounts, they did just as I instructed.

The battle starts, and we have a bit of a running firefight trying to get away from Caen and to our first objective, Pegasus Bridge. We eventually make it there, and I have three other Y2 with me. I decide to push out along the east road towards Caen to the South part of the road where there is a small tower. I post up our LMG and medic on the other side of the road, and take my rifleman with me. I take position in the tower, and shortly thereafter we see contact coming down the road. We are in a perfect ambush setup, but I shoot too early (and miss), and they spread out along the opposite side of the road from me. Luckily, they run right into my two guys there and they are dispatched. In the confusion, I pop up over the wall to find someone right at the minimum engagement distance for my DMR. This is my 3rd event as COST, and I am still not used to shooting at tan, so when I see green, I shoot and hit….my rifleman that moved up to cover my right flank…doh! About this time, we hear a diesel engine approaching. It is either the UFS hummer or the brigade’s ram….turns out it was the latter. I am hiding in the tower, but they report someone in the tower, so they know I am there. As I hear them dismount, I pop up with my pistol, shoot the driver (one vehicle down), and two guys on the ground. My LMG opens up at the same time taking out the gunner who had a bead on me, but never got a shot off. The last guy in the truck shoots me in the arm, and I am down. A quick and violent fight ensues, resulting in all three of us KIA, but we later learn that just the four of us have halted the UFS initial push all by ourselves. That gave COST enough time to get into Coleville and PB to be able to defend from there, rather than fighting into those positions.

After that, my LMG’s gun went down, so we headed back to make repairs and grab a bite to eat before our gun run. We were first up, and we were both set up with LMGs for the run. I had a Pstar Stoner courtesy of our XO Kaid “the legend†Yates. We took off and started hunting. We immediately found two tan sitting in the open along the woods in the airfield. We each started firing at both, and I put a looooooong burst on a line directly into the lead player. No doubt hits on those as the pilot was low and we weren’t more than 60 feet away. Very low deflection shot. We turn around to come back, and they both run away. Only real issue of non hit calling all weekend. We flew around the area pouring rounds near some UFS, not really sure if we were hitting or not. At the end, we spotted the HUMVEE near PB. The pilot graciously turned around (I am pretty sure we were going in and our run ended), and then did a slow banking pass over the HUMVEE, 878’s other technical (both open top), and as a bonus brigade’s ram. We put looooong bursts into both 878’s vehicles, and gave the brigade a burst on the way by. I know we hit just about everyone in the first two vehicles, but reviewing the video (not my camera, was pointed too high :( , but moon’s was spot on), I can’t tell if we even hit the brigade’s. In any case, it was a blast, and I suggest you do it.

We got back to the campsite, reloaded and re hydrated, then found a ride back to our FOB. Holy crap…I am glad I didn’t have to hump that…no thank you. Did it last year, and we lost no fewer than 4 guys…just on the initial patrol. That said, AMS is dammed if they do, dammed if they don’t. For years we players have been saying we want to see more of the field. This year, they tried to do that, and it cost the player base their legs and hydration. It was a good idea, the player base as a whole didn’t come prepared for it. And it turned out to be largely fighting over the same parts of the field it always does anyway. I think it is time just to come to grips with the fact the game will always center on PB and Cville. Suggestion for next year…put CPs down in those valleys, and let people go down there if they want. The more hardcore players can get there and fight it out. New players/those not wanting to do the hills stay up top. I know it isn’t perfect, but it also isn’t worth hearing an ambulance being called for people not ready to play there. To be clear…THIS IS A PLAYER BASE FAULT, NOT AMS…THEY WARNED US OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO BE READY…MOST OF YOU WEREN’T.

Anyway, we then catch a truck up to the rocket site where we get dropped off. We make our way about half way to PB and spot the enemy approaching. We get into the woods and lie in wait. Eventually three UFS appear before us. My wingman drops the first two, and the other is on our right flank. Moon and I pop smoke twice, move and displace twice, and now its just a matter of time before we get him. All of the sudden, the UFS guys call out they are being told to go back to the FOB due to weather. I was thinking this is a trick, but then they get up and walk out. Sure enough, soon after, the game was called and we head back to camp.

Sunday we started off at the airfield, made our way west through the valley to the rocket site, and guarded that for about an hour. Afterwards, we were set off to hunt. Again, about ½ way to cville, we see a group taking fire on the east side of the field. We move into the woods and we take out at e10 member with a decided Aussie/Brit accent. We patrol up through the woods with me on point to clear out. I take close fire from my 1’oclock and go down. My LMG opens up some hate and discontent, directed by our sniper. I see the guy who shot me, but until I get mediced, I can’t do anything about it. Once again, looking back at my footage, my camera is now pointing too far down, so no good footage again. The medic gets to me, and with the LMG providing cover, I walk the dude down and eventually take him out. Dude had the best spot I have ever seen at this field, and although he only got one of us wounded, he stopped a squad singlehandedly for over 10 min. Respect.

We decided we would get in around the CP near the bus and PB, so being the most familiar with the field, I lead us to a position north of the CP in site of the bus where the road splits. As we make it there, a lone UFS dude is walking towards the flag. We wheel into the woods heading east, and then, right in front of me, he bends down and starts tying his shoe. I put one into him, but he runs…I was like, wtf? I put a number of rounds into him and he goes down. We sweep in, and not hearing him say hit, I don’t know if we got him. We eventually get to him, and he is indeed down. I search, then move to the flag. I change the flag, but forget to change the clocks. In all the BHs I have done, this is the first time I have captured a CP to raise the flag. Opps. We then set up for ambush. We are now split between three roads…coming from Caen to the north heading towards our rockets, the road that bisects the CP and PB, and the main road that runs past PB and into Cville. We can attack anyone that goes on any of these roads, and UFS doesn’t know we are here yet.

Our western force of about 7 let’s a force of 8 go by the road to the rockets. Shortly after, a group of three UFS wander into the site. We all open up at once and take them down. In searching them, I get my first kill card! A day of firsts! Suddenly, AWOL comes in with their POV. Unfortunately for them, they stopped right in front of Moon with the PIG. They are quickly dispatched, but now UFS is aware we are there. One UFS wanders up the trail towards my wingman, and I dispatch him with a single shot. Another off to my left and I hear my wingman take him. Yet another one right in front of me and he goes down with a quick burst. Then we hear the brigade’s vehicle coming….oh…shite. It stops right in front of me. I shoot the driver and gunner with direct fire, then spray and pray through the trees hoping to hit anyone in the back of the POV. We are quickly getting surrounded. I look to drop smoke and move to consolidate with our western group, but I can’t find my smoke. This would be the death of us all, because in the time I looked down to find that smoke, a guy with an LMG came up through the trail in my sector and takes me out. I would have seen him first, and would have easily dispatched him, but since I wasn’t paying attention like I should, he got me. He then got my wingman, and then the entire rest of my squad. They were all looking the other way because we had our section locked down…he just walked through all of us. That was pretty sweet by that dude…nice job. Y2 is combat ineffective at that point due to KIA, and everyone except Moon and I go back to the FOB for reinsertion. My back was spasming back at this point, so I called it a day.

I couldn’t have been prouder of Yankee 2. They performed incredibly well all weekend, and most of it being out of contact with me. I can’t wait for the next event.

Yankee 2 actual, out.

I got sunburned. Everyone I shot called it. I regret selling my Multicam Tropic.

My biggest regret is not sneaking into Top's new super trailer and taking a tactical #2. Missed opportunity.

I've been to 5 or 6 of these BHs, and this was like my second favorite ever. Less cameras = more fun.
