Since im gonna join cost this means i will be needing new gear. What camo do you guys find works best in most situations. And what camo would i recommend i go with. I know this is a dumb question but im having a though time finding a camo that is pretty good. Thanks in advance.

Gear color doesn't matter

Out there you will find that most of the patterns for cost work really well. Basic m81 is super cheap and works great in the vegitation. I recommend steering clear of mandrake, as it is hard for both sides to tell at a distance, which leads to getting team killed.

Btw... #UFSwarmachine

Welcome to the Pride!

You can never go wrong with M81 or Ranger Green! Cheap, easy to find, and works well in most situations. While gear color doesn't matter...I would go with ranger green or olive drab because I can not count how many times a team mate got team killed because his goofy butt had a full on plate carrier with cummerbund in Desert TAN....don't be that guy.

+1 for M81 Woodland base layer and ranger green gear color. (For CoST)

With the explosion of "guchiflague" over the past decade or so M81 has lost a lot of users but honestly it gets the job done in most environments in the US.  I've got a bunch of different patterns in my closet from MARPAT to ATACS to MULTICAM and I wear M81 Woodland most times.

The fact you can get a set of nearly new M81 at a surplus store for less than 25 dollars is a plus haha.

As many others have stated, you really cannot go wrong with M81 woodland. It's cheap, works great for terrains such as Broken Home, still looks cool (at least in my opinion) and when you see woodland, you know it! There's no confusion about sides. I'll admit, camos like Project Honor and Kryptek Mandrake do look really neat, but have led to more than a few issues with friendly fire.

OD is also a great choice as well, hard to go wrong with that one :)

Hi Zcon.  My suggestion is M81 if you're on a budget.  However, understand that if you are into low light type games M81 essentially glows in the dark under IR/night vision, as does any other pattern with large black blotches.

Woodland Marpat is the best bet of both worlds, if you have the cash.  Gear color doesn't matter but remember that some patterns are not as easily distinguished from a distance and through foliage, so if you're wearing woodland with a tan backpack, tan vest, tan gloves,  and a tan facemask you will probably get shot by everyone.  I would recommend trying to blend your base color (green vest on green uniform, etc).

I keep a few OD flight suits around just for that purpose :)

Dave is correct They do show up pretty good in NVGs.  MARPAT is pretty affordable now days as well but still has black on it just not at the level that M81 does.

Yep...that's what it means.

If you watch some of the videos for Copperhead you will see that even with the arid environs there is plenty of brush and vegetation to get behind.

You could always look at some of the other patterns available to CoST that are more suitable for the arid environs such as Caiman (my personal favorite) Just got through the list in the ruleset and do an image search on the patterns.

Sorry, for anyone whose done these milsims before, am i aloud to wear an OD combat shirt and a AOR2 lower, or vice versa.

Or are we restricted to match upper and lower?

Thanks.

Do you guys know if AOR2 is an acceptable camo for headgear? The rule set just says woodland or OD

AOR2 is explicitly layed out as approved for CoST. It's the 3rd camo listed.

"Woodland, Marpat, AOR2, etc"

Yeah, but after that it says "(Head gear: Woodland or OD)", so I was wondering if headgear had a separate camo requirement

I believe if the base color is consistent then you will be good.  I run ranger green cams and use an OD helmet.

Sorry for the late response.  I'm fairly certain that MARPAT uses IR treated fabric.  Its the only US uniform I didn't have when I did my IR testing (plus FG ATACS).  If someone wants to donate a top I'll take pics, too.

It is but nearly all of them you find will be ruined by improper washing and the biggest killer starching.  If you are buying a Marine's MARPAT you can guarantee it's been starched a few times even though the tags say not to.

Dave I think I have a top laying around somewhere that does not fit me anymore.  And it hasn't been starched.  I can probably drop that in the mail for you.
