Ammo in Magazine Limits?

Recommended Posts

So after reading the ruleset a couple of times I seen the round limits for the classes and then seen that it says unlimited secondary magazines.

So my question is: Does a limit like the Rifleman's 1500 rounds in Mags at anytime only apply to primary weapons or does that need to include secondaries?

EDIT: I might just be confused because I am used to games that play like a match of Rainbow Six: Siege...

That limit is for any gun that can count as a primary. So if you want to bring a pistol with 1000 mags for that pistol you can but thats just crazy. But say you are a sniper and your secondary is an smg that would fall under the 1500 round limit and share your limit with your primary.

It is like this so you can go right up to the edge of your round limit if you want and still take a secondary and not worry about how much of that limit you have leftover.

That said however, unless you are in a role that has a MED you dont really need a secondary as it is just going to be extra weight and you should be able to reload just about as fast as you could draw your pistol. My exception to this would be if you have a longer rifle and would perfer a pistol for room clearing.

Personal Opinion:

I use my round limit for whatever role I play an event as, as my round limit for every weapon I carry, total.

That's not exactly how the rule works, but..

a. I never have to worry about breaking the round count rule
b. sometimes, limiting yourself on ammo forces you to play smarter, and for some people, this can be a ton of fun.

Also: neko's right, as a rifleman, you don't NEED a pistol.

I only carry one because backup plans are important.

Ditto to above. There is no mag limit for sidearm, but just be realistic when considering your carry number. Sidearms are a backup after all, and you won't see many active combat members carry more than 4-5.

Even as a designated marksman, I hardly go through my 2 magazines before I find myself at respawn just to give an idea. Just depends on how much you like using your backup I guess.

13 magazines is quite a lot to carry...

I run 12 Hex mags even during 10-20min cqb games. (I try to always run the same setup so I stay used to it.)

Alright makes sense. I'm used to having separate limits for each type of weapon and being limited in the number of weapons.

For example the last game I was in had a 1000 round limit for your Primary, 500 rounds for your secondary, and 100 rounds for the 1-2 pistols you carried.

Admittedly we also weren't lugging around too much more than weapons, ammo, and armor. And seeing as the BBs were given for free for this event we didn't even have that to concern ourselves with.

Also Neko: I am the same way on my loadout. Which irks me as my normal loadout is All-Black with maybe Kryptek Typhoon Camo. Now I'm gonna need to get me another entire set of gear.

I wear 5.11 multicam, Condor PC and battle belt, and a repro FAST helmet (mostly for my gopro and helps with head bumps too), I can carry up to 14 M4 mags (and 3 pistol mags) but I use my flap pouches as grenade pouches so I usually run only 12 mags. My primary is a Krytac SPR and my secondary is an Elite Force 1911. Other kit I run is a real IFAK that I put together, Baofang radio, a giger rig on my back, an admin pouch on my chest with plastic map holder in it, and a couple of GP pouches.

How do you guys carry 12-14 magazines?  I'm assuming a backpack.

Another thing to consider: this isn't CQB.  There isn't a 30 second walk back to respawn.  In some fields (DDAP) you're looking at a 10-20 min meandering back, up hill.  Even at Faded Giant it takes a few minutes to get back to your spawn.  You aren't going to touch and go.  Depending on the team, you may just have to wait for X of your team to return so you can all push out en masse.  You will have time at your TOC/FOB/Base/Whatever buzzword AMS uses now to reload your magazines.  I know I won't ever get more than 4 magazines out before getting hit, so anything more than 6-7 (700+ BBs) is just tying up space and weight for something else important.

YMMV.

Right, and most new guys don't consider that these events are semi-auto only unless you run support. That makes a huge difference in how many BB's you send downrange throughout the day. Chances are you won't ever get through 6-7 primary and 1-2 secondary mags before getting tagged out back to your respawn area.

Actually I am looking to run a weapon that actually has 250 round midcaps... (Kalashnikov for the win!) so it is kind of an interesting thing to me. Especially since I'm looking to get back in action as fast as possible.

Planning on running a light and fast load-out with 2-3 mags available in the queue and then the others in a backpack and rotated out.

Nope not a backpack. I have 2 quad duble stack pouches on the belly of my PC (8 mags), a 4 mag flap pouch on my left cumberbun, and a double kangaroo pouch on the left side of my belt.

Most of the time I will only go through 4-6 mags but I was in a couple of firefights at RDGXIV that I only had 1 mag left by the time I wss hit or we pushed out back for a resupply.

Also I tend to reload after a firefight rather than guess how many rounds I have left in the mag currently in my gun.

I suffer from the tactical reload bug as well... Honestly it is one reason why I like GBBRs and Low/Real-Caps.

Everyone does this, but the BBs in the used magazines won't disappear.

Carry what you need, but that seems a little excessive to me.

Meh, my gear is balanced well so I cant really feel the diffrence between 6 and 12 full mags so if I have room for my max ammo limit i am going to bring it.

If it makes you feel better I'm looking at rocking 10 SMG mags that are locked together into dual mag setups, 4-6 AK mags, and then 3+ pistol mags.

That sounds like an awful lot of mags to be lugging around all day. The purpose of having a fob is so that you are not overly encumbered while on the AO.

Most are high grade polymer and are fairly light.1 Pistol Mag weighs as much as 2 of the AK mags when they are unloaded.

Space wise the SMG mags are actually fairly small in that I can fit 6 of them in a single one of the AK Pouches I like. Then the AK mags fit in the others of the set. And the pistol mags are used to balance out the weight of the Pistol.

Also should point out that is total... Including what is in the Weapon. Dual Mags for life.

True but after switching out my gear from my Black Out CQB Kit to a OD/Caiman mix I am actually gonna be running around 7 Pounds lighter. That is after my 4 day survival pack, Spare BBs, and Gas are accounted for.

I should clarify that I usually run gear that is like a mix of Rook, Montagne, and Tachanka. Heavy but able to soak up hits as my regular field has a HP system.

But why are you carrying around a 4 day survival pack, bbs, and gas? The entire op isn't 4 days and the amount of time you are in the field is significantly less. Also you can not reload in the field. The only place you can reload an empty mag is in the FOB, so just secure your gear there.

Yes but I see it as a challenge to lug around the extra 25 pounds of gear plus I know my luck. When I  get the chance to reload my pack won't be at the correct location. Also I know the group I am planning to go with so am making sure to bring extra supplies. Though now that I think about it... It might be my survivalist and hunter sides overplanning horribly. Though I still probably will lug around the mags since I like to get back into action fast. That and my SMG mags are only low/standard caps of 50 rounds each.

Hmm... Wait when is Broken Home?

BH is on Memorial Day Weekend. So that tentatively puts it 27-29May. Right when its sunny at DDAP.

No one will tell you that you can't carry a load around the field, but until you've been running around DDAP for BH you won't really understand the concern for weight. Some carry their kit and pack well, while others find out that the climate will win if not prepared for. All in what you have trained and prepared for. Drink water regardless...
