Sooo...a couple questions, as I see significant changes from last year.

-- The AO closes at 5 Friday evening, meaning no players can do a walkthrough after then?

-- One game block Saturday with no separation into the night portion?

-- I assume the Support Staff is exempted from the 5pm Sunday "get the hell out" timeframe?

As a note, I don't necessarily deem the single game block on Saturday a bad thing, I'm just curious as to the change.

^ I agree with everything Loco stated.  Would be pretty bummed to not see a night game.  Hopefully in the final form of the schedule.

Also like he stated no offense to the way you guys lay out the event, I know you have your reasons and was also curious.

No one can walk the AO after 5pm.  Last year we closed it down at 9pm to begin setup and I got one hour of sleep before I had to be up on sat morning.  It gives us better time to get all of the game stuff put out, versus just having the AO closed down until the game begins.  There will still be a night game, the game doesn't end until 2100 and it will be VERY dark by that time.

Understood. At the end of it all, my main issue is that I'm spending almost 200 to play, 400 on a rental to get up there, and another 400 on lodging because my Florida blood can't handle camping. After all that, the amount of actual game time Saturday will be 2 hours less than it was last year, and those of us who arrived on time the day before get to sit around and diddle our diddles until 1300.

I definitely don't want anyone on AMS having to run the event over-fatigued, under-rested, and stressed beyond the recommended levels for a MilSim event. I don't want to come across as sounding like I'd run it better, either, as I guaradamntee I wouldn't. I just wanted to get some clarification and express a concern. Thank you for addressing it!

Speaking of puttin gout props and stuff for the game, would it be within the realm of possibilities that mission critical props, such as terminals and data centers, be placed where they would make sense?

Sorry to be a questioning Quentin, but I would assume that since you will have set up the objectives already, the AO will not be open to players to tour on Saturday morning to avoid any objective scouting?

The AO will be closed from 5pm on Friday until Game start on Saturday.  Even if we started the game as we have previously on Saturday, you would stil not get to walk the field.  With this format, we have found that many people's level of enjoyment is increased because there are more active players on the AO.  We've found that the standard night game in the past was a small number of people.  By changing to this format it keeps more people on the field longer, and give some time for some earlier rest on the players part, which leads to a better game on sunday.  This is by no means a perminant change to our format.  Please let us know how you like it in the AAR section post op.  We've gotten a lot of positive remarks from Ironclad regarding the format change.  Even if you don't like it in the long run, let us know.  There's nothing that you can say on the AAR section that is going to offend me.  If no one tells me it's broken, then I don't know how to fix it.  Feel free to ask all the questions that you want.  That's what were here for.

Sounds like a plan! Lastly, can you confirm that the 5pm AO clear-out Sunday does not pertain to the support staff? While I wouldn't complain about getting out of there sooner, I would also hate to have my group of 8 only be able to help out for a couple hours, when I know from last year that there's easily 6 hours of work to be done to be remotely clean.

Why does the game end at 21:00 on Saturday? Why can we not play into the night and morning? To me this seems like the exact opposite of milsim..

As part of a team of 10 travelling from Canada - 16 hours one way - we find it very unfortunate the game stops after 12 hours and all players are forced into a 12 hour rest period, only to pick the game back up for 4 hours.

Are there any specfic reasons I am missing here? I'm sure a lot of players would agree they want to play all night, especially for the ticket price of the event.

No AMS event has ever gone all night and into the following day.  Currently, the dynamic of the game does not call for the need for that extended period of time.  The AO is small, almost 100% of the time spent in the field will be "up close and personal" with the opposing faction, as well as constant FRAGO's which will keep everyone extremely busy.

I personally will be traveling from TX, which is 15 hours away.  I have personally attended (and lead) many OPs, as well as this same OP last year, and I can easily tell you that after 12 hours, not a single person will not have had a through amount of engagements.

That is not true. Faded Giant 2 night exercise ran until sunup. The standing objective was to locate the fuelrods and defend them until scoring at sunup. Players could come and go as needed, and the general response from the players is they loved it. No one was injured, no incidents occurred, and the players felt like they got their money's worth.

Well that is incorrect.  FG, FG II, and FG III all had a night evo, a night endex, and then began again on Sunday morning.  There are other events that have taken place at GTI, and very well could have gone all night, but not an AMS event.

I was there, and played until well into the morning. It happened.

It's not a lack of engagements or work I'm worried about. It just seems very weird and silly to me to stop for 12 hours, only to pick back up for 4 hours. Why only 4 hours, why not start the evo at 0800 or even earlier. Late night/early morning operations have been some of the most fun I've ever had playing airsoft and I would hate to miss out on that with such an amazing AO.

I'm not coming from nearly as far but am still a little disappointed with the decreased play time. I know I will get lots of engagements, but it's disappointing to pay more and play less this year. And I will be really salty if we start late like we did last year.

The difference in actual playing hours is two hours, and given that formation is at daggone NOON there should be zero reason to start late. If you're a straggler for a noon formation then you need some counseling.

I have done the 24 jammies and also the evolution based ones. Honestly, the issue with a continuous game straight through the night is the attrition rate. Most people do not pace themselves appropriately and when a game starts with 300 players by 3:00am it is down to maybe 75? Does it give you an opportunity to engage full on sneak mode, possibly. However, the other option is a deserted AO.

P.S. Wardlord where you by chance at OP: Pine Plains 4?

I can for sure state that AMS has never run a 24 hour event.  At Faded Giant II I was running DAM OPFOR, and we kidnapped JP's wife on Saturday night, and made Rick, JP, Bo, and Frosty rescue her.  If someone told you that there was a mission running all night, it didn't come from AMS staff.  You can see the Faded Giant II event schedule here:

Nope, sorry. Long time Canadian player but this will be my second trip to the USA, my first was Blacksheep Grayling earlier this year.

And you should ask Frosty and JP about the time they placed extremely large glowsticks in the main building at GTI and had the mission go all night.

Phase 5: Night Game

I didn't much feel like playing the night game.  I volunteered for a DAM mission and had fun taking potshots at people through my NODs.  I remember hearing that CoST had claimed most of the goal points/sticks and had cached them, but because no one brought them to the spawn point in the morning NO ONE got any points.  That seemed like a pretty shitty game design to me, but everyone seemed to have fun during the actual game.

I was there.  Never went all night, nor have we ever done one.  To ensure I was not crazy... I just hung up with Frosty to confirm.  Hope you see you this weekend!  I would like to know more about this.

I was there as well. I watched Frosty pour the glowstick fluid into large clear tubes for props. Bo told us we could come and go as needed throughout the night, and would be scored in the morning. Apparently other players heard that as well.

But, regardless, a lot of players would enjoy having something like that happen this go around.
