PL weapons

Quick question that I could not find a specific answer to in the ruleset. Can a Platoon Leader carry a special weapon such as a sniper rifle or a DMR? Is the PL attached to a specific squad or just on his own? Thanks.

The intention is that those are squad weapons.

I personally haven't heard of any limitations on player roles inhibiting their position within the team hierarchy. Is it conventional in real military context? No. But keeping that open I think gives flexibility to allowing that player to play in the style he or she wants, while giving leadership the ability to give that person responsibilities if they trust them. 

 

There are certainly challenges to overcome with some weapon systems, but it can be done. I for example am my team's acting SQL, but am a DM as well. So in our formations and movements, it both doesn't make sense for me to be in the point positions, and is difficult for me to provide movement instruction from the back or middle. 

 

Is the PL attached to a specific squad or just on his own? Thanks. As for this question, typically PL's are assigned a squad within their company, but still act over another squad or two in addition to their own.

I let the tree shake out in mine before I decided what I was going to bring. Normally I'm a DM and SL but with the bump to pl I waited. There was a hole that needed filling once roles were shaken out and I filled it for the support of my guys.

^^^ That's a great point, provided you have that option of choosing between roles when registering. Also means that you're waiting a bit though, which might be nerve racking depending on how quick the ticket counter is dropping.

For my platoon, I did not assign any HSW/SSW, Medics, or DMRs to be squad leaders. I wanted my squad leaders

focused on leading their squad. I figured that job alone is more than enough for them than trying to also have them do double

duty.

As a PL, I usually place myself within my platoon where I think I can be most affective. Also having a PSG as my second

allows me to spread out the platoon command more.

I personally wouldn't, because I want to be able to focus on my guys. Can you? Of course, assuming it meets # limitations per squad.

Good PL has far, far more important things to do than worry about an extra 30 yards of range.   Keep your guys on line and pointed in the right direction and it won't be necessary for you to carry a DMR or whatever.
