#15366 ORY2 AAR

Posted by Torch on 10 September 2013 - 10:47 AM

My AAR is literally titled "We're Lucky to be Alive" - hopefully everyone on here can learn from my mistake and not have the same experience we had.  Sometime in the past we had purchased a lipo smart charger and battery combo (like the one pictured below) and were using it Friday night when we arrived at camp Gruber.  I had already charged one lipo battery and put another one on to charge next to my bed before i went to sleep.  In the middle of the night i checked the battery a few times and when i woke up in the morning, I found it melted to my mattress with burn mark the size of a nickle underneath it.  This could have ended tragically and somebody else could of had to figure this out but I'm glad we're here to tell you.  The last thing i want is this event to be a memorial to someone...Please don't sleep and charge!

Thanks Runt511! I called the billeting clerk at Camp Gruber (+1 (918) 549-6067)and talked to a Sgt. Stanley and got my campsite reserved...he said had a couple more left (FYI) for any one else with this concern on their mind.

First off thanks AMS staff (and mother nature) for another great op...we (I) had a blast!

Secondly, somebody please post a link to that Bad Ass S&W sniper rifle (one of 2 in the country) that they gave away.

Lastly, my BH2 AAR/observations...

  • in the final days leading up to the op, i saw the post where the roster had been changed and was really taken back until I spoke with my PL who put my mind at ease...I don't know why it changed and assume it was becuase a lot of folks signed up at the last minute...my advice is don't re-rack and make exceptions to the roster and create undo stress for those of us who signed up in advance/early.
  • Communication - at the opening CoST briefing we were all told that communication would go through the chain of command and i assume it did for the most part but what i observed made be wonder if there weren't some ongoing communication issues.  During our assault on UFS CP the CO was maneuvering around on his 4-wheeler giving orders face-to-face to our platoon vs. radioing him.  At Pegasus Bridge and the last stand at the CoST CP there was a lot of yelling and screming by command vs communication from or PL/SL...just my perception, sorry if this offends anyone.

We'll deifnitely be paying attention to who are hard hitters are through the first half of the first day.

Count on squad 3-1 when the shit hits the fan!

I bought an EF H&K 416CQB before ESR19 and it is 4th AEG we've bought new and by far the best.  I've put about 10-15k rounds through it since then without a misfire.  The windup highcap works great as an "oh shit" mag and then i bought a case (10) of EF Plastic mid-caps, which have also worked flawlessly. The only issue I've had with mine is one of the wires coming off the motor in the grip.

I will have to admit I was disappointed when I heard the AO was moved from Pitcher to Roosevelt and couldn't imagine how the game would be the same or as good, going from one location to the other...I'll have to say though that ESR19 greatly exceeded my expectations for my first AMS op!

Sportsmanship...I can't count how many thumbs up for good hits i saw on both sides of the field and after the game on Sunday, every tan guy I passed said "great game", fist bumped and/or shook hands.  Yeah there was a few heated tempers both days, hell i even saw both of of the commanders about get into it on Satruday (i think) right in front of admin at #4 and they both worked it out.

Blind fire...I was accused of blind fire in the green assault on #2 on Sunday and a tan guy behind a car/van called an admin up and questioned me about it.  The fact was, I wasn't shooting at the guy that called blind fire, I was looking down my sights, shooting at a guy behind a white pickup bed.  From his angle and i can only guess that he didn't see my head and must have thought I was pointing/shooting at him?!?

XXL Shirts...What happened to those, is AMS profiling my XXL frame?  I paid my $$, I made the journey and have the scars, welts, sunburn and achey muscles to show for it but no ESR19 tee shirt.  No worries though...I ended up getting another LG shirt for my son but would gladly pay the difference for an XXL if the shirts mysteriously reappear.

DAM Missions/Game change...my only comment on the squads leaving for the DAM missions and the game change (i.e. at first I thought there were 5 flags to caputre and then the tan could go after the FOB but then I heard that went down to 4) is, this is milsim, the best laid plans are going to change and you/we need to have a contingency plan.  If I learned anything in the military is don't count on plan A...plan A never happens and it usually becomes D, E, or F before it's all said and done which is more realistic IMO.

All in all I had a blast and looking forward to Broken Home II

I would be interested in the "Metal Unmarked Lower M4 Receiver - $15" if you think it would work with/on a G&G upper receiver.

Average high for that area the first wee of March is 55* and low is ~34* according to wunderground.com

I would like to suggest designating a spot for RV's, I know we are planning on brining ours heard a couple others mention it and wouldn't want to park by someone that was tent camping and have them listening to the drone of or generator all night if the need was there to run it.

Ooooooh S***, son! D9 and MAKO on the same team?!

I guess that's why there's 56 on CoST and 163 on UFS...1:3 ratio I'm feeling a lil outnumbered but ready for the challenge!

I got the name Torch from a drill instructor in the USAR many many moons ago because my MOS was 51M (firefighter).

I ended up spending 6 year active and 2 years inactive in the USAR and became a volunteer FF/EMT for my local community in Shawnee, KS and after 20-years with the SFD I finally retired from the FD.

My son (Sticks) started doing airsoft this year and I've got play with him a couple of times here locally. A few weeks ago he signed up for RDGXI and we headed down to TX. After seeing how much fun it was I told him I'd play in the next Milsim event, so here I am!
