Mid game rule change?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, just wondering cause I heard it from a couple different people. After hiking around the wood for a couple hours on saturday, my battle buddy and I took a break along a trail. We had an old jeep with 2 CoST soldiers heading down that very road. They didnt have any type of protection from any direction, so we could have hosed them, but deciding to just keep enjoying our quick break, we didnt. As they passed us, the passenger pulled out a 1911 and shot me several times while the driver threw a grenade that was definatley burning after it went off. We made our way to coelville and asked an admin but he never got back to us. Talking with other from UFS, they said they heard transport vehicles can now be shot from by anyone, even while in motion. Is this mid evolution rule change rumor correct?

There was a point at which I was in a transport vehicle (one of the deuces that took everyone to their spawns) and an admin walked up and said "You know y'all can shoot out of the vehicle now, right?"

This was at about 4PM on Saturday.

My experience with this was similar. We were attacking Caen and a 2 1/2 rolled up with green in it. We ignored it, thinking they can't shoot out and we would just watch as they rolled by. If they bailed out, they were dead but if they kept going, they were being deployed. Nope, they all leaned over the side with their guns as we were looking elsewhere and lit us up not 20ft away. My buddy got shot by a P* in the ear. It cracked his ear piece and cut his ear up pretty badly. He was quite upset about it and quit after that. This was about 4pm Saturday. I helped him to the van and by the time we go there, the blood had run down his neck and was getting all over his combat shirt.

Not trying to complain about him getting injured and such but if we knew before hand that the transport could shoot out, we would have been way more cautious about it. The safety briefing was pretty clear that transports were not to be shot out from, Alex even said if they wanted to bail out in a hot zone, it would be a "poor life decision" (insert TV laughter). Two feet on the ground before firing. It was stressed during it briefing so I was a little shocked to see that change on the fly mid game. Things happen though and I understand that :D I'll just be super cautious next time!

I am curious if you are talking about the above truck?  If so, you do realize that it was the only ACTUAL gun truck on the field right?   These guys were routinely fitted with a M4 pedestal or just piled full of dudes with M60s and used for convoy escort/security roles.

Just because someone has the class to use the correct vehicle instead of building a paintball tank does not mean that you should make assumptions.

(Says the guys who is assuming that the admins knew enough about it to class it as a gun truck)

Cannot comment on the deuce thing, that does sound amazingly jerky to me though.

That guy driving the jeep was me.... I wondered as we did that if our actions would seem improper.

We were under the impression that the vehicle was classified as a gun truck.

I am typing up an AAR on the weekend and will share some more thoughts and explanations.

Aswayze- No, it wasnt that one. It was a plain green jeep, no camo netting or anything else special. The two guys driving and front passenger did not ahve any gun mounts, that is why the passenger shot me with his pistol. Im just pissed off that we have clear rules in the breifing that says both feet must be on the ground to shoot, but then they change it half way without ANY way of letting everyone know. Kind of seems like only COST was really told about it from what Im hearing on here and in field.

I took a picture of my truck at Eastwind.

This is what it looked like at the event, minus the small piece of netting on the front bumper.  That got sucked under the wheels and ripped off right before BH4.

The trailer was not attached at the time of the incident.  And two new lifting-eye hub caps had been replaced on the front axles.

The deuces were more classified as a gun truck.  If you can shoot at the passengers, then you can shoot at the passengers.  It doesn't have to have a mounted gun to be classified as a gun truck.  There is also no rule that you can't shoot at a transport if you can hit the people in a transport.  I can see how this could be confusing.  Best rule of thumb would be that if you can hit the enemy, then hit the enemy.  This rule wasn't changed, it was clarified at some time during the event.

Alex, as a pov owner, would it be possible at future events to distinguish assault trucks from transport trucks? Like all assault trucks are odd numbered and transports are even numbered? Something simple, but that way the player base is able to distinguish? Our truck looks like a transport, but is registered as a gun truck. We have had several people confront us about it and we have to explain. Just a thought.

Can we get a rules set that does not need a Lawyer on retention?

The elephant in the room is:

Why is there a difference between transport and gun trucks?

The intention was to have different colored numbers for gun trucks, and transports.  This got messed up in the execution.

The difference between transport and gun trucks exists to limit the ability to fight out of all vehicles.  We try to keep a little vulnarability in vehicles that are able to be fought out of.  The restriction exists to keep the transports from becoming tanks.

I know we were told that once we where on the move we could could be shot at (in the truck) so shoot back, that was by the driver himself. me personally we were never shot at and so we never shot back even when we passed 2 UFS guys. at one point a truck full of UFS passed us coming back from respawn and we let it go by since it would have been the biggest dick move  killing all of them and making them go to respawn again since we would have gotten every person .

this was not mid game it has always been, from the safety breifing friday alex said to be able to shoot from vehicles all windows must be down exposing who ever is firing so making 2 1/2 trucks able to be shot from and shot at. now the 2 feet on ground rule applies to dismounting stopped vehicles with windows up being shot at. you must have 2 feet on ground to shoot back , you may not crack the door or window and shoot out . simply if you want to shoot you must be able to be shot to keep it fair .

while the occupants of that jeep killing 2 random guys was indeed a dick move it was perfectly within the rule set as they where exposed to your fire as well and in reality you where live enemy combatants even if you where on a break, next time move off the road a bit so you can not be seen.

we had our fair share of problems with UFS vehicles also so dont worry it is not just a CoST thing, for example of a blatant breach of rules ,saturday a dead UFS POV was driving though our FOB trying to get the number off it  <_<

PS stagg

thanks for the ride saturday even if it took forever getting in lol
