Dummy Plates

Recommended Posts

Not sure where to post this considering it isn't a "required" item.

But recently i made the switch from a Condor Quick Release plate carrier to a AWS-Operators Choice Plate Carrier.

If you've ever worn the Condor PC mentioned above it takes Medium SAPI Plates which are 9½ x 12½ inch.
My new PC looks like it takes 11 x 14 inch sized plates as it is an XLarge size.

My Question is: Does anyone know where I can find 11 x 14 inch Dummy SAPI Plates?
I've looked on Evike and AMS but they all come in Medium or smaller.

For now I'm wearing my Medium ones but i HATE that floppy feel of the space not properly being used inside.

Links if possible would be appreciated, thank you.

I would just get a box and make your measurements from that.  Find some foam and but it between the two pieces and wrap the hell out of it in some duct tape.  So you will need a total of four cutouts two in the front and two in the back.  It should form just fine.

^This. DIY is going to be the way to go - I've never seen anything other than mediums. That corrogated sign plastic works well too if you stack a few layers and tape the crap out of it.

message the facebook profile in my signature at the end of the message. we make weighted training plates in any size. we can also make light ones if you're just looking for something to fill your plate bags and make sure your gear fits as designed to. we make them square or swimmers cut, flat or curved whatever you want.

I just bought 2 sets on sale of large plate from evike for cheap, I have some very nice foam ones I made from Martial arts mats but the problem is they insulate your body heat making you sweat ,great for winter deadly for broken home. I plan on filling 1 set with bean bag beads and the other with plastic that I will use to make molds with and make my own plates when I need them

photo shows medium but you get large

I am building a new vest setup and I k ow some wear training plates or fake plates (foam or plastic). I always thought about them for years. I heard of warrior trail but I am confused on there sight.

I am looking at there Enhanced Small Arms Protective Insert (ESAPI) Training Plate Medium 5.50 lb

and

10 x 12 Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) Training Plate 6.5 Lbs

I am racking my brain of what the different is between these two besides price and weight

Get a $10 foam mattress pad from the surplus store.

Cut out two of every plate you want and duct-tape them together.

Install the plates in the carrier,

I'm using quarter inch cardboard panels for dummy plates. Super light and thanks to my rigs Kevlar they don't get damaged.

I purchased ($50) Patriots Choice training plates.  They are shaped extremely well and made from wood which gives them significant weight increases over dummy plates; I did this entirely to add more to the 'realism' of the setup.

Like you, I have the AWS Operator's Choice (great PC for the price)!  It fits the plates just fine.  Prior to that, I had the Condor MOPC.  This PC required larger plates than the ones I have.  I was able to get around this (and I encourage anyone to try this, it's cheap and easy) by cutting a 1x4 to the propper extension (in my case I needed about 2 inches to take up the entire space) and duct taped it to the bottom of the plate which gave it the necessary lift while keeping the plate exactly where it needed to be at my clavicle and down to my belly button).

Really good DIY way is use those small foam boards used for swimming, and cut it to your size. If you are looking for something to buy, my favorite is the LBX ones... but I am unsure of their size they fit medium plate carriers.
