I'm relieved there's no MED and safety kills aren't expected.

For a minor, the classics never fail:

    Door to door
    -Snow shoveling
    -Car washing
    -Lawn mowing
    -House painting
    -Dog walking

It's not about an actual set distance, because as soon as briefing is over 10 feet can be interpreted as a football's length away or a quarterback's throw away. It's about a practical distance. No one will come around a corner, see someone halfway down a warehouse length, and try to "bang" them out. It's understood at that distance all is fair. But when you come around the corner and can see what thread count their FAST cover is or read the tag on their combat shirt, why be an asshole about it? That goes for both parties, by the way, as anyone who would deny a bang-out at that range clearly gives zero shits about the "realism" they're paying for and is there only to enhance their self-image of invulnerability.

As there is no restrictions on optics I personally just play the rifleman role with a 2-7x32 a good hopup and well tuned gear box is much more helpful than the extra 50 fps. But yes if your gun shoots over the fps limit than it is a no go. Also they restrict not just the length of the barrel as not carbine length but it cant just be a carbine with a longer barrel as M4s are not allowed as a DMR either. On top of that you must not be able to fire full auto not just use semi only.
I dont really see the big benefit of running DMR as the only plus is the extra 50fps but at the cost of a MED and what gun you can use and that you have to make it semi only and non changeable.

Do you have other gear like LBE, pistol/battle belt, boots, hydration, assault pack/bag, rifle sling, weapon light, hand light, utility pouches?

Don't cheap out on boots.  Get something that will last, be comfy, and keep the water out.  I can't stress this enough.  Also, don't buy online unless they have a great return policy.  Test fit your boots.  Break them in before an OP.

If you're seriously strapped for cash you may want to divorce yourself from the molle setup and use old surplus LC belt/suspender rig.  It will look more like Vietnam grunt gear than modern SF but you'll spend (A LOT)less and it works.  It'll also last much longer than airsoft brand gear.

You may also want to skip on a pistol for now if funds are really tight.  With no MED for rifleman you may find you're only wasting CO2/green gas charges($).

Trial trial trial.  Test out your stuff before you go the OP.  Especially magazines.  Don't buy a large batch of magazines until you know your gun works with them.  Buy one or two of several different brands.  Make sure your optic doesn't shut off randomly or lose battery connection(and ultimately your zero) anytime it gets bumped.  Zero your optic with whatever bb weight you want to use.  Turn it on with a fresh battery at brightness setting you'll use and see how long it takes to die.  Find out how long you can leave it running because switching on and off sucks. Especially when shit suddenly hits the fan.

Do you have any experience with things like rifle slings?  If not I'd recommend starting with a cheap USGI two point sling.  One point slings may look more tactical, and they are faster for changing shoulder, but they suck for running around and long duration carry.  Learning to swap shoulders with a 2 point isn't hard anyway.

All other things being equal choose the lighter option.  Ounces equal pounds.

Zuzu got a reaction from TheJP in Radio etiquette, SOP, etc
I have a couple questions about radio etiquette and operating procedures.

I'm really interested in the subject because I work in LE/Emergency comms.  One thing that's a huge pain in the ass is superfluous chatter. We have SOP's for that but regardless, there's always those few who love to hear themselves talk or want to play IC(when they're not)-or they're just playing.  I imagine having hundreds of people who DON'T do this for a living would be chaotic and perhaps disastrous for efficient communication.  Is nonessential chatter a big problem at these events?  Truthfully, I'm fine not even bringing a radio if that's what I'll be hearing.  I'd rather have my mind in the game than chatting.

Am I just worrying about nothing?

Are there any types of SOPs or at least generally understood basic procedures for faction/squad/fireteam comms to cut down on all this? I understand the rules against eavesdropping and other clandestine shenanigans.

Are there set channels for squads/fireteams?  PL tones?

New guy from Central Texas reporting in.

My name is Chris, 32 years, I work in emergency comms, and can't wait for Ironhorse.

If any guys from around my neck of the woods want to get together for a meetup, skirmish, whatever please hit me up.  I'm planning on hitting up TXPB a few times in the next couple months.

If any around here want to squad up, let's get together and do some work.  CoST all the way.
